1. Game Overview

Hide and Seek is a classic game mode where players are divided into two teams: Hiders and Seekers. Hiders must survive for a set time (usually 5 minutes) without being found, while Seekers must find and tag all Hiders before time runs out.

Game Roles

Hiders

  • • Blend in with the environment
  • • Avoid being spotted by Seekers
  • • Survive until time runs out
  • • Can disguise as NPCs or blocks

Seekers

  • • Hunt down all Hiders
  • • Identify players vs NPCs
  • • Tag Hiders to eliminate them
  • • Clear the map before time ends

Important Mechanic

In most versions, Seekers lose health when they hit NPCs instead of real players. Don't swing randomly - every miss costs you!

2. Hider Fundamentals

Core Hider Principles

  1. 1 Distance from spawn: Hide far from where Seekers start searching
  2. 2 Stay calm: Don't panic and run when a Seeker is nearby
  3. 3 Blend in: Act like an NPC if there are NPCs on the map
  4. 4 Use cover: Hide behind objects that break line of sight

What NOT to Do as Hider

  • ✗ Don't sprint - NPCs don't sprint
  • ✗ Don't jump randomly - NPCs walk normally
  • ✗ Don't interact with objects suspiciously
  • ✗ Don't go into water (NPCs disappear)
  • ✓ Do walk at normal NPC speed
  • ✓ Do follow NPC walking patterns
  • ✓ Do stay near other NPCs
  • ✓ Do remain calm under pressure

3. Best Hiding Spot Strategies

Spot Categories

Corner Spots

Corners of rooms where you can see Seekers coming from multiple directions while remaining partially hidden.

Good for: Early game hiding

Behind Large Objects

Furniture, trees, structures - anything that breaks line of sight. Move around the object as Seeker moves.

Good for: Cat-and-mouse gameplay

Elevated/High Spots

Rooftops, trees, elevated platforms. Seekers often forget to look up.

Good for: Advanced hiding

NPC Clusters

Hide among groups of NPCs and mimic their behavior. Best hiding strategy overall.

Good for: All situations

Pro Hiding Tip

The best spots are often in plain sight, not in obvious "hiding places". Seekers check closets and corners first - they often walk right past players standing normally among NPCs.

4. Mimicking NPC Behavior

The key to surviving as a Hider is acting exactly like the NPCs on the map. Here's how NPCs typically behave:

NPC Walking Patterns

  • Constant Speed: NPCs walk at a steady pace, never sprinting
  • Random Turns: NPCs turn their heads frequently while walking
  • Path Following: NPCs often follow set paths or wander randomly
  • No Jumping: NPCs rarely jump unless going up stairs
  • Avoid Walls: NPCs don't walk into walls repeatedly

Head Movement Trick

NPCs have distinctive head movements - they look around erratically, especially when walking up stairs (360-degree head rotation). Skilled hiders mimic this by slowly moving their mouse in random patterns while walking.

5. Seeker Fundamentals

Seeker Strategy Overview

  1. 1 Clear systematically: Don't run around randomly - clear areas one by one
  2. 2 Watch for tells: Real players make mistakes NPCs don't
  3. 3 Don't swing randomly: Hitting NPCs damages you - be sure before attacking
  4. 4 Check unusual spots: Rooftops, behind furniture, inside structures

Seeker Hit Mechanics

Damage System

  • • Hitting an NPC = Lose 1 heart + 3 second slowness
  • • Hitting a Hider = Deals damage to them (usually 3 hits to kill)
  • • Consequence: Random swinging will kill you before you find anyone

6. Detection Techniques

How to Spot Real Players

Movement Tells

  • • Sprinting or sprint-jumping (NPCs never do this)
  • • Sudden direction changes when you look at them
  • • Walking directly away from you (NPCs ignore Seekers)
  • • Stopping suddenly when spotted

Position Tells

  • • Standing completely still (most NPCs walk around)
  • • Hiding in corners or behind objects
  • • In areas where NPCs don't normally go
  • • On top of structures or in trees

Behavioral Tells

  • • Using items or interacting with objects
  • • Looking directly at you (NPCs have random head movement)
  • • Moving when you look away, stopping when you look back

Pro Seeker Trick

Pretend to leave an area, then quickly turn around. Real players often move when they think you're gone, revealing themselves instantly.

7. Block Hunt Variant

Block Hunt is a popular variant where Hiders transform into blocks instead of NPCs. This requires different strategies:

Hider Block Strategy

  • Choose common blocks: Pick blocks that appear naturally in the map
  • Place yourself logically: A flower pot on a table makes sense; on a roof doesn't
  • Stay still: Real blocks don't move - any movement reveals you
  • Blend with surroundings: Hide among similar blocks if possible

Seeker Block Detection

  • Know the map: Memorize where blocks normally are
  • Look for out-of-place blocks: A hay bale in a library is suspicious
  • Check floating blocks: Real blocks sit on surfaces
  • Watch for rotation: Some players subtly rotate their camera

8. Advanced Strategies

Time Management (Hider)

As the clock runs down, Seekers get desperate. Use this to your advantage:

  • In the last minute, stay in your best spot - don't get nervous and move
  • If found late game, run and waste the Seeker's time chasing you
  • Use speed boosts or taunts strategically to distract Seekers

Taunt System

Many versions have a taunt feature that gives bonus points but reveals your general location:

  • Low Risk: Taunt when you're very well hidden in a large area
  • High Risk: Taunting in small rooms makes you easy to find
  • Mind Games: Taunt then immediately move to a new spot

Conclusion

Hide and Seek rewards patience, observation, and psychological play. As a Hider, stay calm and blend in. As a Seeker, be methodical and watch for tells.

The best players excel at both roles - understanding how to hide makes you a better seeker, and vice versa.
